Ankara hosted the 10th International Municipality and Environment Fair, CITYTECH 2016, which set out with the goal of raising the vision and service standards of local governments. Celebrating its tenth year in the sector, Anfa Altınpark Expo Center once again embodied the motto “To live in a better country, in better cities” with this established organization. Responding to the municipal needs of Turkey during the European Union harmonization process, the fair concluded as a giant solution platform where urban problems were discussed by bringing together local governments facing administrative and financial difficulties with technology companies producing solutions.
Industry of the Future: Environment and Recycling
The RECYCLE 2016 leg of the organization, representing environmental awareness, set the stage for critical technologies for the protection of ecological balance. The environmental technologies and recycling industry, described as the “industry of the future,” interacted directly with the public and local administrators thanks to this fair. Waste management, environmental health vehicles, and recycled products, which are foreseen to be the most important agenda items for heavy industry and local administrations in the coming years, were among the most attracted sections of the fair. Participants had the opportunity to examine innovative tools and equipment developed with the goal of a livable world on-site.
Global Integration with the Local Administrations Summit
The 10th International Local Administrations Summit, held simultaneously with the fair, hosted thousands of local government representatives from all over Turkey and abroad. Representing 81 provincial special administrations, 3226 municipalities, and over 1000 local government unions, this massive network offered a unique environment for sharing culture and experience. Foundations for concrete collaborations were laid in areas such as joint project development, information, and technology exchange. The summit enabled local governments to overcome the managerial and operational problems they encountered by integrating them with the technological solutions presented at the CITYTECH and RECYCLE fairs.
