The seed sector, which is the starting point of agriculture and the guarantee of food security, expanded its vision with a strategic organization held in Ankara. The 1st Seed and Sapling Fair (TOHUM 2017), held at Ankara Altınpark Expo Center between September 14-17, 2017, brought together the leading organizations of the sector for the first time in such a specialized fair. Setting out with the aim of developing our country’s seed and sapling sector, the organization was recorded as a critical starting point for integrating domestic production with world standards.
Global Standards and Sectoral Development
The main agenda item of the fair was not only to exhibit products but also to consolidate the place of Turkish seed growing in the world league. Infrastructure works and strategic applications necessary for the sector to compete with international markets were discussed throughout the fair. Participating companies shared information on many subjects, from certified seed production to efficiency principles in sapling cultivation. TOHUM 2017 served as a platform where concrete steps taken towards the institutionalization and opening up of the sector were exhibited.
Advanced Technology and Application Areas
The organization became an innovation center where new and advanced technologies increasing efficiency in agricultural production were introduced. In the fair area, not only theoretical information but also practical examples of how these technologies can be applied in the field were presented to visitors. Modern breeding methods, seed coating technologies, and automation systems used in sapling cultivation were presented to producers and professionals. Leading the technological transformation of the sector, this first meeting concluded as a productive event where the future agricultural vision was shaped.
